The International Applied Linguistics Research Conferences began in 2025, with the inaugural conference held at UCLouvain and organised by Glenn Stockwell, Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Journal of Applied Linguistics (AJAL), and Yijen Wang, a member of its editorial board. The AJAL editorial board also serves as the conference scientific committee, with selected conference work linked to post-conference special issues of the journal.
